I just thought I would keep you up to date with what is going on in the queendom. It is spring and everything is starting to pick up speed. I am still in school and looking to finish my bachelors degree by September (if everything goes as planned). Hubby is enjoying his job, and the kids will be out by the end of May and I am keeping busy by doing a host of things. One of those THINGS is starting up my garden again. I attempted to have a garden last summer, when we first arrived here in Arkansas. It was mid July and it was not a good time to start one. Also I had no knowledge of what I was doing and was trying to learn as I went along. This resulted in some things I planted being okay but not great and others never saw the light of day. This year I am determined for much success in growing a garden. Though I don’t know much about it, I am taking my time in learning and experimenting. I am enjoying the process all the same.
So far I have a few herbs that survived my lack of knowledge and the winter such as my spearmint plant and english thyme. Also my oregano is coming back full force. I am excited that they made it and they look beautiful. They were planted in the ground but I am going to take them up and put them in pots so that I can turn the area of the garden I have into a raised bed garden. I can not wait to blog about the results and take you into my world as a newbie to the gardening world. I also have some romaine lettuce that I received from some wonderful people at the Dunbar Community Garden. They gave me about 6 plants that I put into a pot and they are growing right out of the pot (I must plant them soon). Also they gave me three fig tree branches (starters) and they started growing leaves like crazy after about 3-4 weeks of being absolutely bare. These I am going to put into huge aluminum cans and have them as container trees (at least that is what I am thinking. Hubby says that we should just plant them in the back yard). I wanted to tell you about some additions that we have as well in our garden, we have a rome tomato plant, a strawberry plant, and a lovely lavender plant. It will be interesting to see how green my thumb truly is. The first steps to sustainable living!
